Has anybody seen Brian Sanders, the "Body Mechanic" over in CDA? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. I just had a visit with him and he is amazing. Anyways, I want to know if others have been using him.

Gary,

We do manipulations for the cuboid and navicular, as well as 1st ray.  Let me do some more research on the applications of these to your sesamoid issue, and I'll get back to you this week.  Ivanka

I don't know alot of the details, I only talked with him a short time and don't have much medical knowledge. All I know is that he had a bone out of place and they were able to put it back with a tool. It was done at core chiropractic by the mongoian BBQ. It was a one time thing and it has stayed in place. I would like to avoid surgery if at all possible and he suggested I look into something like that.

Gary,

I don't know what tool he is using.  Is the idea to manipulate it back in place?  If it's about the manipulation, we do that.  I wonder what exactly Chris had done - a cuboid manipulation or 1st ray?  Did the manipulation with the tool work to the point it is staying back in place?   Ivanka

Thanks Ivanka, I have tried cutting out the insoles and that seemed to work better for a while, then got uncomfortable. I was talking with Chris Baker tonight and he had the bone drop down, which may be my problem, and the chiropracter had a tool that he used to raise it back into place. Do you know anything about this?

Gary,

Sorry I don't keep up as much as I should on this site.  I have a current patient who had sesamoid surgery and she is not running.  I would try some insoles that have gel in the ball of the foot, or try cutting out the most affected area on a pair of old insoles and see how that does to unload those sesamoid bones.  In the meantime, I would ice for 10 min. whenever you are off your feet.  Let me know how that goes.  Ivanka

I would like to know if anyone has had experience with surgery for sesemoiditis, which is trauma to the sesemoid bones at the ball of the foot. The podiatrist is talking about surgery but in my internet research I have not seen anything positive about surery that I would ever be able to run again. But it is not healing on its own and I haven't been able to run.

Ivanka, I droped a sheet of plywood edgeways on the top of my foot, but the pain didn't come from the top but from the bottom. It happend just two days before the radiant lake tri in june. I struggled through the run on that one. I was thinking of having Cindy do the run for me for the Cda tri but it started feeling somewhat better the week before so I went ahead and tried it, but a few miles into the run it started to really hurt and it was another struggle to get through the run. I haven't ran since then, for the Grand Columbian I had it switched to the aquabike so I wouldn't have to run, but the hard sharp rocks coming in and out of the water really set me back some more. I have only use the orthotics so far in my work boots because that is what I wear the most. They are mostly hard but not uncomfortable, most of the material is built up under my arch I think to take more pressure off the ball of the foot. They are certainly better than without them. I had a quartizone shot on wed. I was hoping it would be taking effect by now, but I am not sure it is. I got a pool jogging belt to try to keep some run fitness, but I am really getting anxious about if this will heal or not.

Hi Gary,
Sorry to hear about this sesamoid injury, they are tricky to heal. First of all, how did you injure this sesamoid - pounding pavement or running barefoot? The next question is - are your orthotics hard, or do they unload under your 1st ray by the sesamoids? Are you running at all? Tell me the story. Ivanka

Ivanka, I don't know if your vibration therapy would apply to this, but I have a severely bruised sesamoid bone in the ball of my foot. It has been all summer that it hasn't shown any progress and I am signed up for my first I-Man this year and am getting nervous not being able to run. As I understand it the biggest problem is the lack of blood flow to the area to allow it to heal, is there physical therepy options such as ultrasound or something else that would help. I have been seeing Dr. Thompson and gotten custom orthotics, and a quartizone shot, but still no improvemant, any ideas?
